Michelin Keys 2026 in Brazil: grand illuminated hotel building at night with trees

In the space of a single week this September, between the Michelin Keys 2026 announcement and The World’s 50 Best Hotels list, Brazil’s luxury hospitality scene received two of the most significant endorsements in its history, one from the world’s most closely watched restaurant and hotel authority, the other from the hospitality industry’s own peers.

Michelin Keys 2026: 22 Brazilian Hotels Recognized

On September 18, the Michelin Guide published its second annual global selection, Michelin Keys 2026, and awarded Keys to 22 hotels across Brazil, 17 with One Key, three with Two Keys, and two, the program’s highest distinction, with Three Keys (Source: Panrotas, 2026-09-21). Those two properties are Hotel das Cataratas, A Belmond Hotel, set inside Iguaçu National Park, and Rosewood São Paulo, on Avenida Paulista. Joining the Two Key tier are Copacabana Palace, A Belmond Hotel, in Rio de Janeiro, Palácio Tangará in São Paulo, and Awasi Santa Catarina, promoted this year from One Key (Source: Panrotas, 2026-09-21). Hotel Unique and Tivoli São Paulo Mofarrej entered the list for the first time.

A Map That Goes Beyond the Postcard Cities

What distinguishes this year’s selection from a simple ranking of five-star addresses is its geography. Alongside São Paulo and Rio, the list reaches into Bahia, with Fasano Trancoso, Fasano Salvador, Txai Resort and Fera Palace Hotel; into Rio Grande do Norte, with Toca da Coruja, in Pipa; into Alagoas, with Kenoa Exclusive Beach & Spa Resort; and into Ceará, with Carmel Taíba Exclusive Resort (Source: Panrotas, 2026-09-21).

It is a map that tracks closely with the itineraries a curated Brazil journey is built around, coastal Bahia, the dunes and cliffs of the Northeast, the calm of Angra dos Reis, rather than the handful of postcard cities most first-time visitors default to. Globally, Michelin’s selection now covers more than 9,400 properties, with 2,832 holding Keys and nearly 470 added this year alone; South America accounts for 94 of them (Source: Panrotas, 2026-09-21). “This second global selection of Michelin Keys reflects the extraordinary dynamism driving hospitality,” said Gwendal Poullennec, the Guide’s international director (Source: Panrotas, 2026-09-21).

Rosewood São Paulo Climbs The World’s 50 Best Hotels

Days earlier, on September 18, Rosewood São Paulo climbed to sixth place in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026, up eighteen places from 24th the previous year, and its highest position since debuting at 27th in 2023 (Source: Revista Business, 2026-09-18; Revista Hotéis, 2026-09-16). Copacabana Palace also placed, at 29th (Source: Revista Business, 2026-09-18).

The list is compiled by the 50 Best Academy, a panel of more than 800 hospitality professionals who vote based on properties that have impressed them over the preceding two years (Source: Revista Hotéis, 2026-09-16). Rosewood São Paulo occupies the Cidade Matarazzo complex, pairing a 1904 maternity hospital with the Torre Mata Atlântica, a tower designed by Pritzker Prize laureate Jean Nouvel; the property holds more than 450 commissioned works by Brazilian artists and the only South American outpost of the Asaya Spa by Guerlain (Source: Revista Business, 2026-09-18).

What This Recognition Means for Travelers

Taken together, Michelin Keys 2026 and the 50 Best ranking land at a moment when Brazil’s international arrivals are already climbing, more than 6.4 million foreign visitors in the first eight months of 2026 (Source: Panrotas, 2026-09-16). For travelers weighing where a discerning itinerary might lead next, the signal from two very different juries, arriving in the same week, is hard to overlook: Brazil’s best addresses are no longer being rediscovered. They are being ranked among the world’s best, on the world’s own terms.

For agencies building luxury programs around the Michelin Keys 2026 hotels, our São Paulo briefing and the destinations atlas cover the ground services behind each stay. The full selection is published by the MICHELIN Guide.
