Overview

About Florianópolis

Florianópolis is Brazil's only insular state capital — a city built across Santa Catarina Island and a strip of mainland, linked since 1926 by the landmark Hercílio Luz Bridge. For DMC operations it offers a rare combination: more than 40 beaches ranging from the sheltered oyster coves of Santo Antônio de Lisboa to the world-class surf breaks of Praia Mole and Joaquina, set within a compact, well-run city ranked Brazil's safest state capital in 2024. Its Azorean colonial roots — settlers arrived from the Azores and Madeira in the mid-18th century — still shape the local dialect, architecture and seafood-driven cuisine, while a fast-growing technology sector, anchored by UFSC and formally recognized in September 2024 as Brazil's National Capital of Startups, has added a steady corporate and MICE market alongside classic beach tourism. Hercílio Luz International Airport (FLN), about 14 km from downtown and now served by a direct TAP Air Portugal link to Lisbon, gives ground operators solid international and domestic connectivity for both leisure groups and business travelers.
