Parnaíba Delta
All of Brazil, within reach.
Thirteen alternating green and yellow stripes with a blue canton bearing a white star, the star that represents Piauí on the national flag. Adopted in 1922, it gained the inscription '13 de Março de 1823' in 2005, recalling the Battle of Jenipapo.

About Parnaíba Delta
Before reaching the Atlantic, the Parnaíba River opens into five arms around 73 river islands, forming the only open-sea delta in the Americas. Mangroves, tidal creeks, white dunes and fishing communities spread across Piauí, Maranhão and Ceará, protected by the Delta do Parnaíba Environmental Protection Area, which covers about 307,590 hectares in ten municipalities and contains a marine extractive reserve created in 2000 for traditional fishing and crab-gathering communities. The city of Parnaíba, the second largest in Piauí, is the base: its riverside Porto das Barcas and 18th-century churches belong to a historic ensemble of some 830 buildings listed by IPHAN. Along Piauí's short coast lie the surf and sunset beach of Pedra do Sal, the beaches of Luís Correia and, 68 km east, the kitesurf village of Barra Grande in Cajueiro da Praia, home to what is claimed as the world's largest cashew tree and to an ICMBio marine manatee base. For agencies, the delta is the natural midpoint of the Rota das Emoções between Jericoacoara and the Lençóis Maranhenses, and works as a two to four night stop for nature, birdwatching, gastronomy and wind sports. Boat days leave from Porto dos Tatus on Ilha Grande, on vessels from shared boats for up to 80 passengers to private speedboats for about 14, which makes small-group and private departures easy. A classic day on the water runs from about 8:30 to early evening and ends with scarlet ibis flying back to the mangroves at dusk, while kitesurf clients find the strongest winds from September to December. Honest logistics matter: scheduled air service to Parnaíba is thin and changes by season, so many programs arrive via Teresina, 366 km away, or combine the delta overland with Ceará and Maranhão. Wind, tides and the rainy first half of the year shape what is best to sell when.
Parnaíba–Prefeito Dr. João Silva Filho International Airport
The delta's own airport, with a 2,500 m runway and limited domestic service to Fortaleza on Azul and LATAM and to Teresina; Azul is scheduled to resume twice-weekly flights from Belo Horizonte–Confins in November 2026.
Teresina–Senador Petrônio Portella Airport
The state capital's airport and Piauí's main domestic hub, with links to São Paulo, Brasília, Recife and other cities on Azul, Gol and LATAM.
